SACRAMENTO, Calif. (JUNE 2, 2021) -- Following the tragic event at the San Jose rail yard last week, former Congressman Doug Ose has released the following statement outlining his approach to reducing violent criminal events that have become far too familiar in California.

"If someone walks into your workplace with the intention of shooting you, there is no way for law enforcement to arrive on the scene in time to protect you. That's the reality we're faced with," stated Ose. "It is imperative that law-abiding citizens who choose to carry a firearm be allowed to protect themselves and their families.

"Over the past 25 years Sacramento's political elite have engaged in an active effort to restrict the ability of law-abiding citizens to obtain and carry a firearm. During this same time period, California has seen a dramatic rise in violent crime and mass shootings. The correlation is obvious, and the increase in violent crime is empirical evidence that restricting the ability for Californians to protect themselves and their loved ones has led to tragic victimization.

"Out here in the real world the only way to reduce workplace shootings or similar violent attacks is to be able to return fire. My advice is to arm yourself and shoot back, and my goal as governor is to change California law to make sure you can do just that."
